These are the first rounds fired through the barrel to establish the accuracy potential of the gun using factory ammunition as a standard. I feel that with a proper break in period and good handloads the gun is capable of shooting better groups than this. TH. Customer Testimonial 09/05/05 The 7mm is a screamer!! Ex-US Army Sergeant (Bronze Star) and Lawton PD Firearms Instructor Bobby Whittington, the man behind Badlands Tactical Training Facility in the panhandle of Oklahoma, has seen a lot of rifles come through in the hands of the police marksmen, army snipers and marine designated marksmen who go through his three levels of marksmanship courses. After spotting for me Sunday morning to get dope out to a thousand yds at his known distance range, even he was impressed. Said he didn't know a 7mm short magnum could shoot like that, even though he's seen and tried quite a few examples of the Winchester version. Over and over during the shooting session, I heard expletives coming from the chair of the normally very soft-spoken man behind me as he observed the impacts. Later on I heard him describing his disbelief about the long range groups to his instuctors. All groups were three shots or more. At 100 yds, where the Berger 180 VLDs have a poor reputation for accuracy, it was single hole groups. At 200 and three hundred, the holes in the paper were touching. At 400, we dispensed with the steel silhouette and used the 8x8" hanger. At 5, 6, 7 and 800, the solar plexus of the silhouette took a superb beating. At 900, it was nipple-to-nipple. At 1000, thanks to Bobby's wind doping, it was the solar plexus again. The 7-10 mph wind in our face was twitching from 11:00 to 1:00 and widened the groups horizontally to around one moa at 900 yds, but the elevation was within 1/3 moa at all ranges. And all that while fireforming brass! They had lots of questions about the gun and builder, but the one I heard the most was "How soon can I get one?" This gun is nicer than anything I ever hoped to have. Many thanks, Doc Click on Picture for a better view.
